My Story

On a Thursday night in February 2016, God told me to befriend a young woman at church. I had previously been involved with all kinds of youth ministry but this was a first for me, as later that year, I learned that she was a survivor of child sex trafficking. Over time, it was clear that God had brought us together for her healing and to reveal to me a new calling in life as her "Momtor" (part mom, part mentor, and whole lot of advocate). Through her, God connected me to New Day for Children. Through New Day, I have become momtor to 25 young women (and some of their moms)! 

About New Day for Children

In 2009 New Day for Children was established to address the growing problem of child sex trafficking in the San Francisco Bay Area as well as the need for long-term care for young survivors.

Today, New Day for Children leads the nation with one of the largest networks of faith-based, trauma-informed residential programs (boarding schools) and services specifically designed for child survivors of sex trafficking from anywhere within the US.

Privately funded, New Day offers comprehensive care—including safe housing, therapy, education and tutoring, equine-assisted therapy, life skills coaching and support for parents and family—giving each child the attention they need to rebuild their lives. This therapeutic journey takes about 15-22 months in program; beyond that, NDC's life coach/momtor is always available to help them navigate life.

Caring for a child recovering from the trauma of sex trafficking is a 24-hour-a-day commitment and every hour counts. It costs $13.89 an hour to provide that full-time, life-changing care for one child.

$13.89 = 1 hour of full-time care

$138.90 = 10 hours of full-time care

$1,389.00 = 100 hours of full-time care

$13,890.00 = 1000 hours of full-time care
