Beat the Heat

Inside our Palatka warehouse, something remarkable happens every single week.

Volunteers show up — sometimes in the early morning, sometimes on their lunch breaks, sometimes driving hours each

 way — to sort, pack, and distribute hundreds of thousands of pounds of rescued food to families who need it. Since our founding, we've moved more than 44 million pounds of food, and kept an extraordinary amount of good food out of landfills and on dinner tables instead.

None of that happens without people. And this summer, we need to take care of ours.

The Problem

Our Palatka facility is a metal building. No insulation. No air conditioning. In the Florida summer heat, it becomes an oven, absorbing sun all day and radiating it back at the people inside. Long volunteer shifts in these conditions aren't just uncomfortable. They're a health risk.

Our Goal: $65,000: To install spray foam insulation in the roof and interior walls of our Palatka warehouse.

This Giving Day, we're raising funds to install spray foam insulation throughout the roof and interior walls of our Palatka warehouse. This single investment will dramatically lower indoor temperatures, make long volunteer shifts safe even in peak summer, protect the health of every person who walks through our doors, and ensure we can keep serving our community at full capacity all year long.

This project will:

Why It Matters

In March alone, we served 8,380 families across 70 distributions. For every $1 spent on our operations, we deliver $79 in wholesale food value to the community. We run lean because every dollar matters, and that's exactly why this investment matters too.

A warehouse that's safe and functional in the summer isn't a luxury. It's what keeps us moving.

The People Behind the Pounds

This is for Army and Indy, who borrowed a trailer and drove 48 hours round-trip to pick up pallet jacks because our warehouse needed them immediately.

This is for Mike Fish, who comes to Florida every winter and quietly replaces the wheels on every cart and pallet jack in both warehouses, just because he can.

This is for every volunteer who has ever shown up on a hot day and kept going.

They give everything they have to this mission. The least we can do is make sure the building doesn't work against them.
