Operation Barnabas is a Christ-centered mission devoted to serving those who have served, standing in the gap for veterans facing incarceration, homelessness, and suicide. Rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we believe that no life is beyond redemption, no story is beyond restoration, and no soul is beyond the reach of God’s grace. Our calling is to bring light into some of the darkest places—jails, streets, and broken circumstances—carrying the hope, truth, and transformative power of Christ to veterans who are often forgotten.
We are guided by the conviction that every veteran is created in the image of God, with inherent worth, dignity, and purpose. Yet many carry deep wounds from their service—trauma, loss, guilt, addiction, and spiritual emptiness. These burdens often lead to cycles of incarceration, instability, and isolation. Operation Barnabas exists to meet these men and women in their brokenness, not with judgment, but with compassion, truth, and the promise of new life through Jesus Christ. As Scripture reminds us, “the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). This promise is at the heart of everything we do.
Our jail ministry is where much of this work begins. We go behind the walls to seek out incarcerated veterans, bringing the message of the Gospel into places where hope is often scarce. Through Bible studies, one-on-one discipleship, prayer, and fellowship, we remind these men and women that they are not abandoned—that God sees them, knows them, and still has a purpose for their lives. We walk alongside them as they begin to confront their past, surrender their burdens, and embrace the forgiveness and freedom found in Christ. We believe that true transformation begins not with behavior modification, but with a changed heart.
As veterans transition out of incarceration, Operation Barnabas continues to walk with them through intentional, Christ-centered mentorship. We do not simply offer guidance—we offer relationship. Our mentors serve as brothers, sisters, and spiritual companions, modeling what it means to follow Christ in everyday life. Together, we pray, study Scripture, navigate challenges, and celebrate victories. This discipleship process helps veterans rebuild their identity—not defined by their past mistakes, but by who they are in Christ: redeemed, restored, and called to a new life.
A unique and powerful part of our ministry is our outdoor discipleship experiences. Jesus often met people in natural places—on mountains, by the sea, in quiet solitude—and we follow that example. Through our weekend fishing retreats, we create sacred spaces where veterans can encounter God away from the noise and pressures of daily life. In these moments, walls come down, hearts open, and healing begins. Surrounded by God’s creation, veterans are reminded of His presence, His peace, and His power to make all things new.
We also address the practical realities of homelessness and instability with a faith-driven approach. Scripture calls us not only to preach the Gospel, but to live it out through action. Operation Barnabas helps veterans secure housing, find employment, and access critical resources—but always within the context of relationship and spiritual growth. We believe that meeting physical needs opens the door to deeper transformation, and that lasting change happens when both the body and soul are cared for.
Suicide prevention is deeply woven into our mission. Many veterans struggle in silence, believing the lie that they are alone or beyond help. Operation Barnabas confronts that lie with truth: they are seen, they are loved, and their lives matter to God. Through authentic community, consistent mentorship, and unwavering spiritual support, we create an environment where veterans can speak openly about their struggles and find hope again. We point them to Christ, the ultimate source of peace, healing, and purpose.
Operation Barnabas is not just a program—it is a ministry of reconciliation. We are called to restore what has been broken, to bring hope where there is despair, and to walk faithfully with those who are searching for a way forward. Our mission to end veteran incarceration, homelessness, and suicide is bold, but it is fueled by an even greater truth: with God, all things are possible.
Through faith, obedience, and love in action, Operation Barnabas seeks to be the hands and feet of Jesus—serving veterans, sharing the Gospel, and believing wholeheartedly in the power of redemption.
